Who am I?
I am a MOM, “Mom Of Many," first and foremost! Children under my care, as well as that of my staff, will be cared for as though they were our very own, because as a MOM, I would want my children cared for in the same way!
I was born in Alaska, however I was raised out of state. When I became a mom and our family grew, Alaska called us home to be closer to our large Alaskan based family! My husband and I have two great kids and our family hobbies include being outdoors to soak up all that Alaska has to offer: lake time adventures, skiing, ice skating, bike riding, camping, and snowman making. I personally love to craft and scrapbook, and recently I have fallen in love with quilting.
I am most passionate about the world of education and I simply love working with and for kids. I have been teaching since high school, where my first job was an afternoon preschool teacher. I have been in the field of education for 20+ years with an extensive educational background in teaching preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Five years into teaching elementary school, I pursued my Masters in School Administration as I always found myself enjoying additional roles at school such as the leadership committee, master teacher, program development, summer camp director, etc. My degrees in Early Elementary Education and School Administration have blessed me with some of the coolest and most rewarding experiences over the years. However, becoming a mom and taking a few years to be a full-time homemaker has taught me more about child development and crazy mom multitasking skills than I have ever learned from any college class or even from my experiences in education. My years as a mom have only enriched my prior knowledge and experience in the area of child development and parenting (as parents are our children’s first teachers)!
Some of my favorite programs of which I have been trained in are: Positive Discipline, The Leader in Me, and The Zones of Regulation. I love reading and I hope to inspire all our preschoolers to love reading as well. I have recently added The Science of Reading endorsement (Alaska Reads Act) to my credentials and found the study to be absolutely fascinating. Seeing children light up the very first time they make the connection between print and speech is the kind of science I get excited about!
I started an in-home preschool based program for my family and friends to support theirs and my childcare and kindergarten prep needs. The experience has been a dream come true and when my family asked if I'd ever consider expanding my program... Well, I felt as though the Lord was calling me to do so. It has always been a dream of mine to have my own school and with the help of family and friends, as well as constant prayers, this dream has become a reality!!!
